For the last four years, we have been conducting home visits with families of deaf and hard of hearing Marshallese children in order to build stronger bonds between the families and the deaf/hard of hearing children. This is done in order so that the child does not miss out on their Marshallese culture and traditions. And of course, we teach sign language to the families at those home visits.

It has been extraordinarily effective and powerful to reach the families beyond the classroom in this way. It allows us to build trust between the parents and teachers. We personally witnessed a lasting positive effect after doing these ongoing home visits for almost a year. We have seen how brightly the kids' faces light up as soon as they begin to understand what is going on in school AND in their home as well!
